About Kelly Phillips

Kelley Phillips

I was born and raised in a suburb of Cleveland, Ohio. Growing up I didn’t have an extreme pull to art though my mother would say that my childhood spatter paintings pointed to greatness. It wasn’t until high school that I even felt an inclination towards painting. My freshman art teacher told me to suck it up and actually try. What I found changed my view of the future. I found a new aspect of art to love, the making of it.

When I moved to New York City in 2005 it was with a new purpose. I had found myself to be an artist but what to do with this ability now was the question. I attended Marymount Manhattan College and for four years learned all that I could about myself and what I could do a brush and a glob of paint. The crowning moment was after two years of planning my senior show I scrapped everything when I painted a simple portrait with a plain black background. This portrait brought out a whole new side of me that I didn’t even know was there.

Now I have graduated and am beginning a true point of uncertainty in my life. I am also finding myself at a point in my work that I can be truly proud to put my name on it and present it to you all. Welcome and I hope you enjoy.
